Divide Revit model into construction phases

In many construction companies, Revit models are increasingly being created for costing, but are often not used further. A Revit model can offer many advantages in work preparation, such as better change tracking or 4D/5D simulation.

In the course of work preparation, construction phase plans are drawn up for larger projects. As a rule, the floor slabs and walls must first be divided into construction phases.

There are two options for this:

1.  The walls with the Cutting Share tool

Walls can be covered with the Cutting tool with one click, but please note that certain properties are not applied to both segments. During the cutting process, one segment is created by shortening the original wall, the second segment is created with a new Revit ID. Certain properties of the original wall may be lost in the second segment:

  • Self-created copy parameters
  • certain standard specimen parameters

To better understand which standard copy parameters are adopted and which are not, you can use the Revit Lookup Tool take a look at the Revit database:

If this is not a problem, there is nothing to be said against the Cutting Tool for the walls.

 

2. Duplicate the elements

Unfortunately, storey ceilings cannot be Cutting tool, but there is a simple workaround here. To do this, first split the floor slab with the Copy - Paste - Aligned in the same place duplicated.

The limit for both storey ceilings is then adjusted accordingly. The same principle can also be used for the walls if you want to ensure that the values of the self-created example parameters are adopted.
