Autodesk goes among the grasshoppers

In the field of parametric design, there are basically only two players in the professional league: the Grasshopper-extension for Rhino and the Bentley Generative Components. It was only a question of time how long Autodesk would stand by and watch before sending its own player onto the field. Soon the time will come: Dr. Robert Aish, the luminary behind Generative Components, has been working on a similar solution for Autodesk for the last four years: it is called DesignScript and will be available for AutoCAD as a first step. (( http://aecmag.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=472 )) It is quite likely that an implementation in Revit will follow very soon.

At the moment there is no release date communicated for DesignScript, according to the AEC Magazine but at the end of September at the Advances in Architectural Geometry A two-day DesignScript workshop is also planned for the Autodesk conference in Paris. It remains to be seen what DesignScript has to offer and, above all, how successful the integration into Autodesk products will be. Given the current popularity of AutoCAD and Revit, it is reasonable to assume that AutoCAD has a very good chance of becoming one of the TOP 3 in parametric design.

In the meantime, I recommend watching the DesignScript video in the Autodesk University (free registration required).
