A Dictionary<\/em> in Dynamo stands for a collection of data that is related to another piece of data known as the key.<\/em> Thanks to this method, we can easily look up certain things, similar to the classic dictionary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A simple example could be rooms, which are often sorted and queried according to key values such as room number or level. Dictionaries<\/em> simplify such queries and make them flexible to use, as can be seen in the following example: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The true advantage of this method of working is that the query or the creation of the Dictionary<\/em> (green group) only needs to be carried out once - we can then use this data flexibly and analyze it based on different Key values<\/em> as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result are leaner and faster scripts, making dictionaries particularly relevant when working with large amounts of granular data (e.g. AEC Data Model and Data Exchange) - but more on this in the next articles! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
