IFC tip: Assign the IsExternal standard parameter to the Revit support

Supports in Revit have no property Function such as walls.

However, you can create your own parameter and take it into account during IFC export - the important thing is that it is a Yes/No parameter, since the IFC property is also known as boolean is defined (see IFC documentation).

This parameter then only needs to be assigned correctly with the parameter assignment table during export.

Example with parameters Outside

The parameter mapping file is a simple text file (UTF-8 format) with the following syntax:

IFC Pset Name IFC Property Name of the Revit property

In the example above:

Pset_ColumnCommon IsExternal Outside

Important:
- the spelling must correspond exactly to the spelling in the IFC documentation, also with regard to capitalization
- The value in Revit must be available / box must not be grayed out

The standard parameter is now filled correctly when exporting:

You can find out more about IFC and Revit in the Autodesk Revit IFC Manual.

  1. Hello Lejla,
We always used this function until Revit 2022 - the same for the "load-bearing/non-load-bearing" parameters.
Since Revit 2023, however, the export of type parameters to the Pset_Common areas no longer works. ... this is quite annoying, as we don't want to create the parameters as copy parameters.
Do you have any ideas or a solution for how to do this in future?
